Michigan Governor Rejects Helmet Bill

Michigan State SealLANSING, MI – Friday Gov. Jennifer Granholm announced her veto of a bill which would have allowed some motorcyclists to ride without helmets. The veto was expected and came as no surprise to those following the bill.

In her veto message, Granholm expressed concern with safety and insurance costs saying the law would result in more injuries and deaths of motorcyclists at a cost to the general public. Read more »

Maryland Proposes New Motorcycle Plate Size

If Maryland lawmakers have their way, Maryland’s motorcycle license plates may soon be on par with the rest of the country. Several Maryland lawmakers have proposed reducing the size of Motorcycle registration (license) plates.

House Bill 844 proposes changing the motorcycle registration (license) plate size to 7 by 4 ½ inches. If enacted, the act will take effect on October 1, 2008 Read more »

Missouri Bill Could Modify Helmet Requirements For Motorcyclists

Jefferson City, Mo – Senate Bill 1067, sponsored by Sen. Luann Ridgeway, R-Smithville, could exempt “persons 21 years of age or Helmet Imageolder from wearing protective headgear except when operating or riding motorcycles upon interstate highways”. Read more »

Florida Puts Motorcycle Speeding Bill On Hold… For Now

Florida State Flag A Florida bill introduced in an effort to crackdown on motorcycles speeding and performing stunts along public roadways has been put on hold. The bill, HB-137, titled “Offenses Committed While Operating a Motorcycle”, was originally introduced by Representative Carlos Lopez-Cantera, R-Miami back in September of 2007. Read more »
