It’s Official! Myrtle Beach is no longer the location for two long-running motorcycle events. In an open letter to the public John Rhodes the Mayor of Myrtle Beach states “After many years, our residents grew weary of three weeks of noise and traffic congestion each May, and they asked City Council to end the events. As a result, the Harley-Davidson Dealers Association Spring Rally and the Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Bikefest will not be held in Myrtle Beach”.

This was a difficult decision. Myrtle Beach welcomes visitors year-round, but the giant motorcycle rallies simply grew too large. Our staff, residents and businesses strained to keep up with these huge single-focus events. It may surprise you, but our economy is much healthier with a fully diversified visitor base, instead of a concentration on one or two extremely large events.

Please know that Myrtle Beach is not anti-biker or anti-motorcycle. We want folks to come on the vehicle of their choice and enjoy all of the things Myrtle Beach has to offer. We are ending the motorcycle-related rallies because they grew too big and lasted too long. The huge rallies even kept visitors away from Myrtle Beach, and that’s not good.

For everyone’s safety and welfare, City Council has added a few new rules and regulations. We believe these new laws will make Myrtle Beach a safer and more friendly destination. For example, with your safety in mind, we now require that all motorcycle riders and passengers wear a helmet and eye protection. We also have a 1:00 to 6:00 a.m. curfew for everyone under 18. These and other rule changes are explained on this web site.

Thank you for understanding. As you know, Myrtle Beach is a great place to visit, and we welcome you at any time. I look forward to your next visit and am confident that you will have a great time in Myrtle Beach!”

Announcing this today, SIC Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Razlan Ahmad Razali said that the circuit would be arranging a signing ceremony with Dorna to officially mark the partnership this Saturday at the circuit.

“Naturally, this is a massive incentive for Malaysia in our efforts to develop motor sports in the country especially in our efforts to develop Malaysian riders to compete in the Grand Prix. The last Malaysian rider to compete in the GP was Shahrol Yuzy Ahmad Zaini in 2002 and I believe it is long overdue for Malaysia to have riders competing in the GP.

“On our part, it would centre on developing further the Malaysian Super Series in unearthing new talents among the locals. We will also support the other bike series especially the Petronas Sprinta Malaysian Cub Prix Championship and the FIM Asian Grand Prix, which compete regularly in Sepang,” he told a press conference at the circuit today.

Malaysia has hosted the series since 1991with SIC taking over the duties previously undertaken by Batu Tiga Circuit in Shah Alam and the Johor Circuit in Pasir Gudang since 1999. The 2008 Polini Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, which would be held this weekend in Sepang, marked the 18th edition of the Malaysian GP.

INDIANAPOLIS —The country’s first automated, touch‐free wash for motorcycles is being introduced this week, coinciding with the inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis GP motorcycle race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The prototype wash – Moto Express Wash™ (Patent Pending) was designed and built by Harrell’s Car Wash Systems, a local company that’s built and operated car washes for three decades around the Midwest.

Owner Mark Harrell, a long‐time motorcycle enthusiast, got the idea several years ago after talking to Paul Teutul Sr. from Orange County Choppers and the cable TV series American Chopper. Harrell was intrigued and went to work developing the country’s first automated touch‐free motorcycle wash (Patent Pending) at his shop on the west side of Indianapolis.

It has taken three years, but Harrell’s team of engineers, computer technicians, welders and other specialists have designed and built the prototype, which is open for business at the Dirt Stripper Car Wash at 4980 Crawfordsville Road, about a block west of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

From a distance the Moto Express Wash™ looks like a normal automated car wash bay. The motorcycle is ridden into the bay, which is the same size as a standard car wash bay. The kickstand is put down, and the rider dismounts. The bike is secured through a computerized system that activates blocks at the kick stand and at the front tire, so whether you’re riding a Vespa or a chopper, the bike is held in place in an upright position during the entire wash process.

An arm moves across and over the bike for pre‐soak, wash and spot‐free rinse – at the same time, the front and rear wheels are being rotated and cleaned, and then it’s air‐dried. The whole process takes less than five minutes. Until now, motorcycle owners had to rely on hand washing to clean their bikes, a process that could take at least two hours.

“Wash. Dry. Ride.℠ It’s really that simple,” says Harrell, who has spent the last several months test marketing Moto Express Wash™, and plans to make it available to other car wash owners and motorcycle dealers beginning in the spring.

“It was a big hit with the Harley riders and the Indianapolis Police Department Drill Squad,” said Harrell. “Harley is excited about the opportunities it will have to offer Moto Express Wash™ in dealerships. Riders are excited, because they can spend less time washing their bikes and more time on the road.”

Timing is right considering an estimated 23.7 million people in the U.S. own a motorcycle, a number that continues to climb thanks to high gas prices. This week, visitors and competitors in Indianapolis for the MotoGP will get a chance to see for themselves how our patent pending automated wash for motorcycles works. The prototype Moto Express Wash™ is open from 7am to 6pm.

About Harrell’s Car Wash Systems:

Mark Harrell bought his first car wash in 1977. Now with more than 70 employees, the
company operates, builds and sells car wash systems throughout Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.

The Reading Public Museum in Reading, Pennsylvania will be opening a new exhibit on October 3, 2008. The exhibition is named “Born to Be Wild: Adventures in the Art of Motorcycle Design” and runs through January 4, 2009.

An opening night reception will be held on Friday, October 3 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. and a special “Museum Bike Run” will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at 9:00 a.m.

“This exhibition will examine the art and design of the motorcycle through the lens of classic and contemporary cycles. Forty-six motorcycles will be exhibited including two of the most famous of all time: the Captain America chopper and Billy Bike featured in the 1969 film, Easy Rider. They headline a section of the exhibition featuring early choppers of the 1960s and ‘70s.

The latest generation of choppers is represented by cycles designed by some of the most creative contemporary designers in the United States. These cycles includes the iconic, two engine Two Bad 2 designed by the legendary California designer, Arlen Ness.

Part of the exhibition is devoted to classic, historic motorcycles of the first half of the 20th century. Among the highlights is a selection of Indian motorcycles celebrated for their design sophistication and include the 1948 Indian Chief featured in the groundbreaking 1998 Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum exhibition, Art of the Motorcycle. In addition, Reading’s own motorcycle company, the Reading Standard, is featured and includes a rare 1905 model, one of the earliest motorcycles ever manufactured.

The exhibition explores international motorcycle design, featuring British and Italian motorcycles. Contemporary Italian MV Augustas and classic British motorcycles, including a 1954 Vincent Black Shadow and 1957 BSA Gold Star, are exhibited in pristine condition. Harley-Davidson motorcycles also play a prominent role in the show and include historic police motorcycles and a classic 1958 calypso red and white DuoGlide with side car.

An opening night reception will be held on Friday, October 3 from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. Wear your best biker chic and break out the leather, do-rags, spikes and boots to show your support of this adventurous new exhibit. The reception is sponsored by Hair On The Avenue, and is open to the public. Members free/Non-members $15.

This exhibition is sponsored by Penske Truck Leasing, Yuasa Batteries, Inc. and Friends of the Reading Museum.

A special Museum Bike Run will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2008, to kick off the exhibition in grand style.

This event begins with registration at 9 a.m. at the Pagoda (celebrating its 100th anniversary this year), followed by a ride along historic Skyline Drive through Reading, with the Museum being the final destination. Special events will continue until 5 p.m., including exhibit tours, detail paint demonstrations, Pig Pit pulled pork and more. Advance registration fee is $25 per rider ($30 day of the event) and includes a commemorative t-shirt (XXL now available), pin and admission to the Museum that day.
KATHMANDU – “Enraged locals and passengers Tuesday morning torched a public vehicle at Bijulibazaar, accusing the bus driver of attempting to run over a biker by reversing his vehicle.

The incident occurred when a public bus heading toward old bus park from Bhaktapur rammed into a motorcycle heading in the same direction, injuring the bike rider. Eyewitnesses claimed that soon after hitting the two-wheeler, the driver attempted to run over him by reversing the vehicle.

The fire set by irate locals has completely damaged the vehicle. After the incident, traffic police took the bus under control. Traffic police said such kinds of incidents occur due to weak law enforcement.

Traffic police said the driver fled the scene after the accident turned nasty. The injured person, Surendra Thapa, 29, a resident of Baneshwor area, is undergoing treatment at a clinic and is said to be out of danger”.
